General Maintenance
The APNTU Water Analyzer requires very little maintenance. However, the chamber and tubing should be checked weekly for leaks and debris. This is especially important when the water supply has higher turbidity.
Monthly – check for leaks. Clean any moisture and dirt. Inspect unions and hardware. Inspect the system for corrosion or unusual wear.
Yearly – Inspect tubing connections and replace. Thoroughly clean and replace any corroded hardware. Inspect all wiring and wiring connections.
Cleaning. Most cleaning of the APNTU is facilitated by removing the sensors, rinsing it with tap or DI water and gently wiping the sensor head with a soft cloth or Q-tips, then re-rinse. For a highly fouled sensor, soak the lower half of the sensor in sensor cleaning solution for 10-15 minutes. Gently rub the sensor electrode head with the provided Q-tips. If the surface is not entirely clean, continue to soak the sensor for an additional time until clean. Rinse the sensor with distilled water.

- How often should I clean my flowmeter? How do I clean it?
In general, variable area flowmeters should be cleaned at least once a year, or more often if the fluid is dirty or the flow rate is high. The tapered tube may be cleaned with a soft bottle brush. Use a MILD soap and water solution for cleaning purposes. Hard water deposits can be removed with a 5% acetic acid solution (vinegar).
Here are some signs that a variable area flowmeter needs to be cleaned:
- The flowmeter is not reading accurately
- The float is not moving freely
- There is debris or sediment in the flowmeter
- The flowmeter is leaking
