Description
Pressure Gauges are used to provide valuable feedback on system pressure in a chemical feed system. They are added to the discharge piping and are usually installed in combination with pressure relief valves and pressure switches. Pressure gauges are typically required to help set or adjust the relief valve and/or switch’s pressure trip value.
Application
Generally, pressure gauges are recommended on most chemical feed systems. There are a few reasons:
- Provide feedback as to the actual pressure that the pump is acting against.
- The life of a peristaltic pump’s tube is directly proportional to discharge pressure. Knowing the system discharge will allow the user to estimate tube life accurately.
- Diaphragm pumps function best at pressures above 30 psi and below a set maximum pump pressure. Ensuring the pressure is within these limits allows for the best possible pump performance.
- A pressure gauge is needed to set the pressure value of a pressure relief valve or pressure switch.
- Knowing and tracking system pressure will allow the user to troubleshoot the system more easily when performance is poor.
- Allows the user to detect if there is abnormal or excessive pulsation in the system.
Installation
Pressure gauges should be installed close to the pump. They can easily be installed on a skid within a few feet of the pump discharge.
Pressure gauges should be installed in conjunction with a Gauge Guard to prevent chemical exposure to the switch. A pressure gauge is also required when using a pressure switch or pressure relief valve to set it to the correct pressure.
Blue-White offers pressure gauges as an option on skids. They can be purchased separately and installed anywhere in the discharge piping. Installing gauges at different locations in the discharge may be required to monitor pressure variations due to pressure loss, elevation changes, before/after back pressure valves, etc.
