Plastic Skid Systems

Installation

What’s in the Box

The CFPS Skid System is shipped with the following contents:

  • Pumps mounted on skid (pumps are ordered separately.)
  • One skid with pre-mounted components.
  • Connecting tubing to and from the pump. The size and material of the tube will depend on the skid part number.
  • Mounting brackets to mount skid to floor or wall.
  • Inlet and outlet fittings for connection to customer-provided inlet and outlet piping connections.
  • Testing Certification Sheet.
  • Instruction manuals and guides for accessory items (Ball valves, PRV, etc.)

Before installation, check all components for damage and check all fasteners and union nuts. Tighten as needed.

Preparation

The CFPS Skid is designed to withstand outdoor conditions, although it is recommended to locate the skid and pumps in a protected enclosure for maximum pump life. A cool, dry location where the unit can be easily monitored and serviced is recommended. Special ventilation is not required.

Choose a skid location that ensures proper suction conditions for the pump being used. Minimize suction lift and suction line length for optimal pump performance.

The CFPS Skid should be mounted on a level, flat surface. We recommend using the provided mounting brackets for secure installation. If mounted to a wall, use hardware appropriate for the wall material and support. Check weight and force requirements prior to mounting to the wall.

Pumps are provided mounted to CFPS skids.  It may be beneficial to remove pumps when wall mounting depending on location and skid weight.

When moving and lifting the skid, use rollers or forks under the skid frame. Use care to distribute weight evenly.

Physical Installation

The CFPS Skid must be level to ensure pumping accuracy.

If mounting the skid to the wall or floor using the provided mounting brackets, follow these instructions:

  1. Use the existing mounting holes and provided brackets and hardware.
  2. Mount brackets to skid using provided ¼-20 Bolts. Brackets may be pre-installed for floor mounting.
  3. Place the skid and mark holes on the floor or wall surface.
  4. Remove the skid and drill holes into the floor surface.  Check surroundings and accessibility before securing the skid frame.
  5. Place the skid and secure it to the base/wall surface using the appropriate hardware for the base surface. ¼-20 bolts are recommended.

  6. For wall mounting, the brackets will need to be moved from the bottom of the skid to the back of the skid.

Mount Pump(s) to Skid

If pumps are shipped or provided separately, or if pumps were removed and need to be mounted, then follow the below instructions for mounting/re-mounting pumps to skid.

Mount the pumps to the CFS Skid using the provided hardware. Attached pump mounting bracket to the pump first using the included (4) 10-32 socket head screws and associated nuts and washers. Place the pump and attached bracket onto the skid base plate and use the provided socket head with 10-32 screws, washers, and nuts to attach the pump to the base.

Piping and Tubing Connections

The CFPS Skid must be connected to facility suction and discharge piping connections. Do not support facility piping from the skid or skid piping. Facility piping must have its own supports.  Skid placement should allow for simple connection to facility piping.  Ensure suction piping is leak-tested. If pulling a suction lift, perform a vacuum test to ensure there are no air leaks.

CFPS skid comes with pumps already connected to skid piping.  If you have removed the pumps from the skid, or are providing pumps separately, then use the provided tubing to connect the pump suction and discharge connections to the skid. Connect tubing and align to prevent kinks or strains.

If a calibration column is provided, ensure the vent from calibration is connected to elevated piping, as necessary, or fed back to the chemical feed tank.

Wiring

Depending on the pump model and components included with the skid, some installation wiring may be required.  Check the instruction manual or Help Center page for the pump model. Specific wiring requirements will be provided there.

Caution: Consult a licensed electrician when in doubt about your electrical installation.

Control Wiring to Terminal Box

If a terminal box was ordered as part of your skid model, then control wiring between the pump and terminal box will be required.  Control wires are typically provided but may vary in type or quantity depending on the pump model. A wiring instruction sheet will be included in the terminal box.

Flow Meter (MS6) Wiring

If the skid has been provided with an MS6 Flow Meter, a power source must be provided for the meter. The MS6 will include power converters and plug options.

Output wiring from the MS6 must be accomplished by opening the wiring compartment on the back of the MS6. This should be done prior to introducing chemical or fluid into the skid system. The top and bottom fittings may need to be loosened, or the whole flow meter may need to be removed to connect wiring. See the MS6 manual for details.

Note: Shielded cables must be used on all signal wiring.
