Troubleshooting

Common Issues

Readings are inconsistent. The ultrasonic elements within the MS6 are sensitive to electrical noise. They may have trouble reading correctly when located in areas with sizeable electrical interference or located near large motors and drives.

Readings are not accurate. A digital drawdown (or customer calibration) is recommended to ensure the most accurate readings.  Perform a Digital Drawdown at the flow rate that is typically used at this flowmeter location.  If the flow rate changes significantly due to process changes or seasonal flows, we recommend performing another Digital Drawdown at the new flow rate.

The Display reads “Poor or Low Signal”. Check that the chemical used is compatible with MS6.  The MS6 is dirty or contains debris and needs to be cleaned. Check “System” page of Blue-Central and note signal levels. Contact customer service.

The Display reads “Empty Tube” but the tube is full. The chemical may be incompatible with the MS6.  The MS6 ultrasonic sensors may not be working properly or there may be a poor wiring connection within the unit.  Check “System” page of Blue-Central and note signal levels. Contact customer service.

Solution is leaking from the top or bottom fittings. Check to ensure o-rings are present and seated properly. Clean or replace, as necessary.  Make sure MS6 is not supporting piping, or that piping is misaligned with MS6 causing stress on the top and bottom union fittings.

Electricals

The MS6 will not power up. The MS6 can be powered from the power supply or via USB connector. Check power supply connection (may require opening the unit to ensure proper power wiring. )

Blue-Central does not connect to MS6. Check that the USB connectors and cable are not damaged or worn. Use a USB-C to USB- A cable (USB-C to USB-C cables will not work.)

Calibration and Digital Drawdown

Digital Drawdown fails or won’t complete. The value chosen for Digital Drawdown is not within the range of the MS6. MS61 calibration range is 50 ml/min – 5,000 ml/min, MS62 calibration range is 500 ml/min – 10,000 ml/min.  An excess of air bubbles or debris will cause the Digital Drawdown to fail. Ensure the solution is clean and free of air.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

MS6 Troubleshooting

  • My unit won’t power up. What’s wrong?

A number of reasons could be the cause.

Power supply issue: The MS6 requires a power supply to operate. If the power supply is not working properly, then the unit will not turn on.

Hardware issue: The MS6 could be damaged or have a faulty circuit.

  • The display on screen is not solid, random lines interrupting the info listed.

A number of reasons could be the cause.

Display cable issue: The MS6 display is connected to the display board with a ribbon cable. If the ribbon cable is damaged or not properly connected, the display will not turn on.

Hardware issue: The MS6 display could be damaged or have a faulty circuit.

  • I am getting an Empty Tube message on the display. Why?

If a Blue-White MS6/S6A Flowmeter is giving an "empty tube" message, it typically indicates that the flowmeter is not detecting any fluid through the flowmeter. Air pockets or bubbles within the flow tube can disrupt the fluid flow and cause the flowmeter to register a bubble warning. If the bubble warning persists to long an empty tube condition will register. It's important to ensure that the flow tube is properly filled with the acoustic fluid, without minimal air entrapped.

  • Why does my flow reading bounce up and down so much?

Because of pulsating flow. The ultrasonic signals are very sensitive to small changes in the fluid velocity. Output flows from a metering pump are not smooth and a continuous velocity. This is reflected in the flow rate display.
